Track Name: History
So my bed’s unmade and my room’s a mess
you’re already up, showered and dressed
A kiss on the cheek,
A quick goodbye,
and a thank you for a good night

You’ve left one of your socks on my floor
and my room smells of you even after you’ve walked out the door
I don’t want to
move from this place
I never want to forget your face

I like to think this is more than a one night stand
and that it was fate or some other grand plan
At the bar when
we made our first glance
Till we did the bedroom dance

So now you’re gone and I’m left alone
Left to wonder whether I should pick up the phone
to call and ask
if things are as they seem
that it wasn’t just one big dream

So even though we’ve only met tonight
I feel like I’ve known you for my entire life
And even though you’ve only just met me
I can’t help thinking that we’ve got history

So I make my bed and sort out my room
my thoughts on nothing else but you
some memories pass and fade
but these ones
Wont be put in the shade

I remember having low self esttem
and asking “why are you interested in me?”
You smiled and quietly said
don’t be a girl
and kissed me on the head.

You held my hand and I couldn’t speak
my tongue went numb and my knees were weak
you told me later
you felt the same
every time I said your name

So you gave me a night without a flaw
I’ve got the beauty of the morning after the night before
The sun comes up
and brightens the sky
It’s cheesy, but I’m a happy guy

So even though we’ve only met tonight
I feel like I’ve known you for my entire life
And even though you’ve only just met me
I can’t help thinking that we’ve got history
Track Name: Pints of Guinness Make You Strong
Evelyn sits by the elevator doors
It's been 37 years since James died on St. Patrick's Day in 1964
But she could not hold it against him
There were times when there was nothing she could do
But lie in bed all day beside a picture of them together
A picture of better days

And just like James, I'll be drinking Irish tonight
and the memory of his last work week will be gone forever
Evelyn I'm not coming home tonight!
If we're never together
If I'm never back again
Well I swear to God that I'll love you forever
Evelyn I'm not coming home tonight!

In all the years that went by she said
She'd always love him
and from the day that he died
She never loved again

And in his wallet she kept in her nightstand
an a.a. card and a lock of red hair
she kept secrets of pride locked so tight in her heart
it killed a part of her before the rest was gone.

She said, "If I would have known just how things would have ended up
I just would have let myself die."

And just like James, I'll be drinking Irish tonight
and the memory of his last work week will be gone forever
Evelyn I'm not coming home tonight!
If we're never together
If I'm never back again
Well I swear to God that I'll love you forever
Evelyn I'm not coming home tonight!

lets start with the positives, of this is true.
I’m so happy to have spent my night with you,
I was so happy to notice you walk up to me,
and that it seemed to be me that you wanted to meet.

I was so happy that we just went straight to an embrace
I’m sure it was etched all over my face,
it was great to see you looking up at me,
smiling that smile and saying long time no see

It was amazing to feel your kiss on my cheek
I jokingly promised I wouldn’t wash it for a week
You laughed and as you did you swung your head back
And then resting on my shoulder as we sat

Fingers entwined chatting about life
Saying it was great to have this time
To sit and kiss and joke and laugh
and Wonder how long the good times will last

———

So I think we made a connection
which was more emotion and less about erections
Numbers swapped, you left with one last hug
That better than any sorta soup in a mug

Then I started finding things out
That I wasn’t the only guy that you thought about
that yes, it was too good to be true
And you had a boyfriend, and he had you.

long before I was even on your radar
long before I’d remembered your name in bar
and now I’m not sure where I stand
I never ever wanted to be that ‘other’ man

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t regret the time
Where we sat and chatted about life
but I realise now that I’ll leave you to it love
I’m not gonna be blamed for breaking you two up.
Track Name: This Side of The Blue
Svetlana sucks lemons across from me
And I am progressing abominably
And I do not know my own way to the sea
But the saltiest sea knows its own way to me

And the city that turns, turns protracted and slow
And I find myself toeing the embarcadero
And I find myself knowing the things that I knew
Which is all that you can know on this side of the blue

And Jaime has eyes black and shiny as boots
And they march at you, two-by-two, re-loo re-loo
When she looks at you, you know she's nowhere near through
It's the hardest heart beating this side of the blue

And the signifieds butt heads with the signifiers
And we all fall down slack-jawed to marvel at words
While across the sky sheet the impossible birds
In a steady, illiterate movement homewards

And Gabriel stands beneath forest and moon
See them rattle and boo, see them shake, see them loom
See him fashion a cap from a page of Camus
See him navigate deftly this side of the blue

And the rest of our lives will the moments accrue
When the shape of their goneness will flare up anew
And we do what we have to do, re-loo re-loo
Which is all you can do on this side of the blue
Oh it's all that you can do on this side of the blue
